Be it the instrumentals, impossible to categorize, or the polished vocals, QUELL continue to push their boundaries while not disappointing with each release. Fata Morgana is that kind of entry that you won’t forget any sooner.
Title: SQ QUELL RE:START series vol.5 Eichi&Ichiru Label: Tsukipro/Movic Release date: 22/02/2019 Genre: Pop/Electronica
1 - Fata Morgana 2 - Fata Morgana (off vocal)
1 – Fata Morgana
QUELL’s 5th entry in the RE:START series is Fata Morgana. This song blends the group’s ethereal sound with acoustic and danceable elements that make it another unique entry for this group. The song’s instrumental mixes slow, deep bass lines, EDM beats, glitchy synths, acoustic guitar melodies and delicate strings to create an ethereal and addictive sound that perfectly showcases the group’s versatility and impossibility to put a label on them. Fata Morgana is unlike anything the group has released and is, even within the Tsukipro franchise, a one-of-a-kind song. The song flows in a peaceful, soothing fashion even if the EDM elements hint that this song could have been an even more powerful dance hit than it is.
There are a lot of changes on the vocal end in comparison with their previous entry in this series. The vocal approach is completely different, focusing on a mix of singing, rapping and whispering that Sho Nogami and Koutaro Nishiyama excelled in. Certainly QUELL have done something similar in the past but sounding this peculiar it’s a first. The duo impressed with their versatility and chemistry, something that we felt that made the performance more impactful for the listener.
QUELL sure know how to impress. This 5th entry pushes their boundaries once more and we couldn’t be more excited for what awaits us in further entries.
