Track analysis:

1 – Colorfully☆Spark

Unit 5’s members are, once again, diverse, meaning that out of the three members each one of them is representing a different group in the franchise – Starish, QUARTET NIGHT and HEAVENS. With that in mind, Colorfully☆Spark brings hope that this track will incorporate unique elements from the units to this collaboration single. Shimono and Tsubasa bring a bright and cute aura to the instrumental piece which fails to bring fourth the members talent, specially vocal wise.

Yamashita, who is usually a power vocal, is the only who shines among this track at times overwhelming, instrumental wise, or when Tsubasa and Shimono‘s chants become repetitive and unnecessary. Colorfully☆Spark is a track that attempted to bring fourth a ambiance of a cute and bright/cheerful instrumental piece but failed to deliver it.

Instead of successfully delivering a “Alice in Wonderland” inspired instrumental piece, we have Tsubasa and Shimono wasting their opportunity to actually sing in this track instead of being the backing vocals. On that note, Yamashita was the one who got his golden opportunity to shine, and in no way did he lose this chance. Delivering a stable and confident vocal performance, Yamashita did a great job in this track.

Although, this track retains some of the elements that are so typical of the franchise, such as synths and violins and synth pads, it is about high time their formula is perfected so as to result in interesting and fresh tracks, something that is lacking in Colorfully☆Spark.

Perhaps, if Shimono and Tsubasa had been actually singing and the high-pitched synth had been scrapped from the instrumental piece – or maybe toned down- this track could have been something more than its current form.
