Ryunnosuke Tsunashi “my 10plate” (Review)

TRIGGER‘s Ryunnosuke Tsunashi (Takuya Sato) takes the listener on a journey to the sea. With a mix of ambient and acoustic music and a flawless vocal performance, my 10plate easily ranks as one of the best songs in the 12 SONGS GIFT series.

For those that have been out of the loop: “12 Songs Gift” is a series of solo songs that started being released this past January. A total of 12 singles, one for each member of IDOLiSH7TRIGGER and Re:vale, are scheduled to be released throughout the year. The solo songs releases coincide with the character’s birthdays.

Track analysis:

1 – my 10plate

The sound of waves washing ashore introduce the listener to an airy and dreamy soundscape. my 10plate‘s dreamy instrumental comes to life through a minimalistic sound that fuses simple synth melodies, atmospheric synth pads, and a simple beat with a noticeable bass line and sweet acoustic guitar melodies. Influences of ambient music and chillstep can be found in this instrumental starting from its comfortable mid-tempo, to the emphasis put on making the song sound as airy and broad as possible with lots of reverbs, wet vocals and atmospheric synths. All these make the listener experience the beautiful and never ending landscape described in the lyrics and materialized in this instrumental. This is the kind of instrumental that doesn’t need anything fancy to impress, after all its dreamy soundscape is more than enough to grab the listener’s attention.

When it comes to the performance, for a change, Takuya Sato is performing in a calmer tone and without as much tension as he’s usually found when performing TRIGGER‘s songs. Previously, he’d performed Risky na Kanojo, song featured on TRIGGER‘s first album, REGALITY. At that time he gave off a sexy, powerful performance befitting of Ryunnosuke Tsunashi’s “wild and sexy” marketed image. However, my 10plate‘s performance goes in a completely different direction. Although there isn’t that unique power and electrifying aura in this performance, the listener is, in return, showered with a sweet performance that showcases a different, caring and passionate side to Tsunashi. This is a nice change of pace that fits perfectly with Sato‘s warm lower toned vocals. While there’s nothing fancy on the vocal side, his performance leaves a great impression, especially by showcasing his improved control.

A beautiful soundscape, the sea, sweet, inspiring lyrics and a flawless vocal performance easily rank my 10plate among the best songs in this 12 SONGS GIFT series.
