1 – one day…
The tone and pacing for “one day…” is quite unique if you’ve carefully paid attention to Growth‘s repertoire. The song is delicate and slow paced, putting the spotlight on the vocals while keeping everything at an absolute minimum on the instrumental end.
This is not quite the song we’d expect from Growth, especially taking into account that this unit is known for their cinematic songs and this one falls far from that tag. With “one day…“, we find ourselves in the middle of a song that doesn’t sound nor feel like anything Growth would perform, however it is yet another side to this unit that we had yet to discover. Their repertoire was missing a song like this, raw, simple and overall sweet, something that wouldn’t usually come from them, yet would sound like it was theirs. In lack of dreamy/picturesque soundscapes, we have a simple piano and strings instrumental. Sounds simple, doesn’t it? Well, truth is, Growth don’t need anything else to sound great. They usually rely on grandiose instrumentals and tricky compositions, which we love, but when the vocals are on a high level, simplicity tends to be the best weapon in order to impress, and that is exactly what happened with this song. Some might argue that “one day…” is not on the same level as “Mahou no Kizuna“, easily the unit’s best song to date, but the reality is that we can’t compare both as they are on completely different leagues. Both filled different voids on Growth‘s repertoire and both displayed some of the best sides from this unit.
On the vocal end, this song is clearly built around Junta Terashima‘s vocals, the one responsible for leading the way with a whole 1 minute of solo performance accompanied only by a piano. Toki, Yamaya and Yamashita join in after that to not only impress with their breathtakingly beautiful harmonizations, but also with their tender solo parts. Believe us when we say that you’ll be swept off your feet when you listen to this song.
“one day…” might not be a brilliant song filled with fantastical soundscapes but with everything at a minimum, this ballad shines on their repertoire. This is yet another gem by the most consistent unit within the Tsukipro franchise.
This song is included in the second DVD of TSUKIPRO THE ANIMATION. The DVD is available for purchase on CDJAPAN.
