SolidS “Cocoro” (Review)

solids

SolidS return with a new single, this time around a part of Tsukino-Pro‘s newest project: “Two sides” (表裏). The band makes a solid comeback with “COCORO“, a powerful electronic pop-rock song that is as addictive as it is beautiful.

Track analysis:

5 – COCORO

SolidS have made us used to their trademark pop-rock sound. The band drifts a bit away from their previous releases with this song – which is actually a good thing. Toning down a bit the guitar work, giving way for minimal atmospheric synths and pads to take the lead, COCORO has all the makings of a great song. Ethereal synths lead the way into this song in a way that we can feel that desperation and craving that is associated to the lyrics. Soon, those synths are joined by the infectious drums – really, who doesn’t want to jam to the drum parts on this song? – and reverberating bass that adds a lot of power to the instrumental piece. The bridge part is beyond words – we advise you to pay attention to it as the piano will impress, as well as other things.

The lyrics to this song are just as good as the instrumental is, meaningful and addictive, especially in the explosive chorus and bridge. Vocally this song is impressive. Regardless of being individual or chorus parts, every single member is on top of their game. Major props to Soma Saito, displaying a chilling falsetto throughout this song (the bridge part is simply stunning) – taking into account the various voice issues that have haunted him in the past year (and scared some fans), Saito is sounding better than ever, that we can assure you. The rest of the group sounds just as flawlessly, now that all members are on equal footing (thanks to Saito and Umehara‘s growth spurts) leaving us with nothing more than compliments. Another top release from one of the most exciting units in the business.

Final rating: 5 stars
